Stage 2: Caen to Clecy (25 miles)
This section takes you into the increasingly hilly
Suisse Normande, but the route along the cycleway remains flat,
criss-crossing the River Orne on a series of viaducts. About eight
miles before Clecy, you go through Thury Harcourt, a small town.
There's a nice cafe and picnic spot at a restored station on the route,
or divert left and go up a short hill to the town centre for more
cafes, shops and a Tuesday market.
Again the route-finding is very easy, just follow cycle signs.
Arriving at Clecy, leave the cycleway at the first right turn marked to this town.
If you're staying in Le Vey (eg at my recommended B and B, Pont du Vey), which is below the town on the river:
shortly after leaving cycleway, don't cross bridge to Clecy itself but
take first left to Le Vey, follow along the river for a mile
(parallelling cycleway), then right to cross Pont du Vey. (It is also
possible to remain on the cycleway to near this point, but the
riverside route is a very pleasant finish to the day).
